Water Level Monitoring Devices Installed in Gullies and Streams
A new set of advanced water level monitoring devices are installed in Stanley Burn and nearby gullies, providing valuable data to enable visualisation for the monitoring team at Teesside University. These innovative devices are designed for remote monitoring applications, being both wireless and battery-powered with a long battery life, making them ideal for use in challenging environmental conditions. Devices use a combination of ultrasonic and radar technologies to ensure precise water level measurement. Ultrasonic monitors have been installed in gullies, while radar monitors are being used for streams to account for varying conditions.

The devices transmit data directly to the cloud, enabling visualisation for the monitoring team and water management authorities. This information will play a crucial role in understanding on-ground conditions and enabling informed decision-making, in-particular during adverse weather conditions or during potential flooding situations. By integrating modern technologies with environmental monitoring systems, this initiative aims to support sustainable water management and improve responsiveness to abrupt environmental changes.
