February Litter Picks Help Tidy The Community

Our three litter picks in February helped to remove rubbish from 3 sites in the study area thanks to community volunteers and project partners. The picks too place in Craghead, South Moor and South Stanley on sites which were identified as needing attention during our mapping engagement activity last year.

Over the three events we were able to collect a wide variety of items from the normal drinks cans and crisp packets to some highly unusual finds. A brief rundown is shown below.

60 bags of rubbish, 4 mattresses, 2 sofas, 1 bed, 1 shower curtain with pole, 1 dumpy bag builders rubble, 2 wheelbarrows, 26 bin bags of turf, 1 kitchen cupboard, 2 lengths of rubber playground matting, 1 cycle and 3 buckets.

The next planned litter picking events are in May. For more information or to sign up check out the Wear Rivers Trust volunteering app. https://wear-rivers-trust.teamkinetic.co.uk/…

Once again thank you to all of the volunteers and SuDS+ project partners who were able to help.
