Flood Reduction Work To Begin At South Moor Memorial Park
Over the next couple of weeks residents should see some work beginning at South Moor Memorial Park in response to our SuDS+ community consultation events. This work will begin around 8th December and disruption to the usual walking routes may occur.

The first phase will be to install three leaky dams using large trees pinned and tied across the river. The leaky dams are designed to slow the flow of water during major rainfall incidents when the river level is above the banks. Installing these leaky dams should make the initial area around the dams wetter during these weather conditions, but will reduce flood risk elsewhere.

Other phases of the project include improvements to footpaths, wildflower areas, tree/shrub planting and more seating as requested during our April 2025 engagement design session in the park.
More information to come in early 2026.
