Cheviot/Cleveland Terrace

Good progress is being made with trees and landscaping now in place on the site. Over the next few months balancing changes will gradually be made to tweak the two drainage basins and water running through the site but everything is working well so far.

This unused former housing site has been connected to surface water drains to slow the water coming down South Stanley bank. The water will now flow through a series of swales (ditches) on the flat before passing through two storage basins (ponds) and back out of the site. By making this chance to the drainage system the speed of the water will be reduced and water will be stored on site as it passes through the swales and basins.

Plus features requested by the community are being added around the SuDS with playpark, bins and signage installed soon. The woodland walk has had footpath improvements making it much more accessible in all weathers. Edible trees have been included in the planting and should be bearing fruit in the next couple of years.

A map showing the site plan is shown on our website.

Further surveys are being undertaken in the park to determine the best way to implement SuDS. Community requests and feedback after our event in April have shaped the community benefit (+) mapping for the park. We hope to align plans for SuDS and + over the next couple of months with a plan of the site.

Lenin Terrace  Have You Noticed Our Bunds?

This smaller project aims to slow down water at times of high flow (heavy rain). We are using a piece of land which is already waterlogged and have added two 10cm high soil walls (bunds). The computer modelling predicts the bunds will hold 750 litres of water on the site and help prevent it causing problems further down the bank for example flooding the road and setting off the combined sewer into the river.

We will have a planting session in the spring to introduce hardy water resistant plants to the site to suck up more water than the existing mowed grass. If you are interested in coming along to the planting or would like to suggest any plants please send an email to the address below.
